Rumor: Ben Affleck to direct solo Batman film for 2018

bvstrailerWe are just a few weeks from Comic-Con, but the rumor mill has been swirling of late, especially when it comes to news about the DC Universe. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad will likely be the main focus of the studio’s presentation, but talk has begun about other DC movies, namely Green Lantern.

But today, we have a new nugget of information that may get fans even more excited. Latino Review is reporting that Warner Bros. will have Ben Affleck direct a standalone Batman film (rumored to be called The Batman) for release in November of 2018. We’ve heard that rumor before, but it now looks like it’s gaining some more steam.

It’s interesting that Warner Bros. may be opting to do a solo Batman movie in between the two-part Justice League film. I worry that they are going to confuse people if they jump back and forth in the DC timeline. Keep in mind that Suicide Squad comes out after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but supposedly the events in that movie take place between the events of Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice (you following me?). Who knows what the story will be for The Batman, but again, I think DC would’ve been better served developing their characters in standalone films first before putting them together in a Justice League movie. Hopefully, we’ll get some clarification in San Diego in a few weeks.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25, 2016.

Colin J. Liotta is the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Sports Hero and hopes Ben Affleck’s Batman represents Boston with some Dunkin Donuts references. You can follow him on Twitter @TheSportsHero.
