First look of Jared Leto as the Joker in ‘Suicide Squad’
After months of teasing us with social media posts, Jared Leto and “Suicide Squad” director David Ayer have finally released the first image of Leto as the Joker in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” film. As you can see from Ayer’s below tweet, the release coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Joker’s first appearance in “Batman #1.”
So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, here is your new Joker.

A few things to take away from this image. First, it’s terrifying. This Joker is a far cry from that of Heath Ledger’s in “The Dark Knight” and even Jack Nicholson’s in “Batman”.
The tattooed Joker look also plays well with Leto’s rock star personality, and the bleached skin and green hair give him an even more terrifying look. Plus those teeth. My god, those teeth.
Also, this Joker looks completely unhinged, whereas Ledger’s had a menacing look but also conveyed a man in control (if that makes sense for a serial killer). This Clown Prince of Crime is a whole new breed, and while I was skeptical at first as to how the Joker would be portrayed in this film, I for one can’t wait for our first footage of Leto in “Suicide Squad”.
Plus, it’s interesting to look at him and know that he has done battle against Ben Affleck’s Batman. Let’s hope Warner Bros. puts those two together in a solo Batman flick. Wow.
“Suicide Squad” opens August 5, 2016.
