Jason Momoa offered role of Drax the Destroyer in ‘GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’

While most of his movie roles have turned out to be duds, Hollywood hunk Jason Momoa has proven to be charismatic and charming enough to demand attention when he is on the screen.  With roles in underachieving films like the Conan reboot and the recently released Bullet to the Head, it would seem that Momoa was one of those talented actors waiting for his big day on the screen.  Now, it seems like the Game of Thrones actor will finally get his chance.

Latino Review is reporting that Momoa screen tested for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy this week and the studio was so impressed by him that they’ve already offered him the role of Drax the Destroyer.  In the comics, Drax was once a human whose family was killed by Thanos.  When Drax was resurrected into a different body, his sole purpose in life became to destroy Thanos.  It’ll be interesting to see how the relationship between Drax and Starlord (to be played by Chris Pratt) unfolds in the movie.  It seems that Drax’s storyline is one of the most important ones since he is directly connected to Thanos, who as we all know, was the villain seen in the post-credits scene of The Avengers and is rumored to be the main villain in both Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2.

Momoa’s casting may be the last “live” role filled by an actor since it appears that the other two main members of the Guardians’ team, Groot and Rocket Racoon, will be brought to life using CGI and motion capture.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1, 2014.
