NCAA hands down sanctions to Penn State
The NCAA brought down the hammer of Thor on Penn State today, hitting them with a $60 million sanction, a four-year football postseason ban and a vacation of all wins dating back to 1998.
The vacation of wins means Joe Paterno’s career wins total now goes from 409 wins to 298, dropping him from number one on the list of all-time winngest NCAA football coaches to 12.
The sanctions come just days after Penn State’s board of trustees opted to remove the infamous statue of Joe Pa that stood outside Beaver Stadium after the Freeh Report found that Paterno helped cover up information regarding Jerry Sandusky’s child sex abuse.
Now that Penn State knows what their program will be facing in the years to come, one can only hope they can now begin the process of healing and moving on from this dark era.
